You release a powerful stroke of lightning that strikes one creature or object within range. You must succeed at a ranged touch attack to strike the target. A target struck by the lightning bolt takes 1d6 points of electricity damage per level (maximum 10d6) with no saving throw. If your attack misses, the bolt terminates at the nearest corner of the target’s space.
In addition, all creatures and objects in a line from your fingertips to the point where the lightning bolt terminates (including your original target, if your attack missed) likewise take that amount of electricity damage, but may attempt a Reflex saving throw to halve the damage.
The lightning bolt sets fire to combustibles and damages objects in its path. It can melt metals with a low melting point, such as lead, gold, copper, silver, or bronze. If the damage caused to an interposing barrier shatters or breaks through it, the bolt may continue beyond the barrier if the spell’s range permits; otherwise, it stops at the barrier just as any other spell effect does.
