Beyond Ragnarok : Gerald Fizzlecast
Darklands» Gerald Fizzlecast

Gnome wizard (played by Ian).

Gerald was a notable researcher at a prestigious college of wizardry. He lived a fairly boring life for a wizard, living out his tenured professorial existence, crafting the odd magical item, but he always yearned for more. But he found himself too weak, too cowardly to adventure out on his own. Then one night, he dreamed... or perhaps received a vision? He saw a man sitting in an ornate wooden chair, at the head of a large bright dining hall, with his face partially cloaked in the shadows of his cowl.

The man spoke to Gerald, the words echoing deep into his soul: "If you would seek true knowledge... true power over the very source of magic... then so be it. I will offer you the chance to follow me, to worship me. In exchange I will enlighten you." The hooded man stretched out his hand, and suddenly Gerald's mind was ablaze with knowledge he, or even anyone in his field, had ever begun to dream about.

"You mean... it's all the same source? Arcane, divine, it.."

The man in the hood cut off Gerald's babbling. "This is but a fragment, nay, a sliver, of the real Truth. You shall bring my gospel to your world, and convert others to my teachings. Once you have paved the way for my ascendance there, I shall grant you even further knowledge. Now go!"

And with that, Gerald was suddenly awake

---

The next day, Gerald took an indefinite leave of absence from the college, and set out in a life he never thought he would lead, that of the adventurer. In search of more fragments of the Truth the hooded man had bestowed upon him, and in search of like-minded practitioners of magic. Within his heart he knew that he would be the one to change his world for the better.
