The clavichord is prized by ambitious and extraordinary bards for its striking sound, but is unwieldy to use in battle, as it must be placed on a flat and level surface. This popular magically-enhanced version of the instrument solves that problem, and a few others besides.
As a move action, the owner of an adventurer’s clavichord can press a hidden button on the instrument, causing an insubstantial-seeming, but quite solid and stable, stand to be conjured, and the clavichord to place itself squarely upon it. (Another press of the same button, or simply picking the instrument up, causes the stand to melt into nothingness.) The stand is made of quasi-real material from the Shadow Realm?.
Additionally, the magical enhancements of the adventurer’s clavichord amplify the instrument’s sound, making it as loud as any drum or cymbal. This, along with the clavichord’s unusual sound, makes the adventurer’s clavichord grant a +2 circumstance bonus on Perform checks for countersong; also, if the instrument is used to give a public performance, the musician’s Diplomacy and Gather Information checks made against audience members receive a +2 circumstance bonus for 1d6 hours afterwards.
(The adventurer’s clavichord is, of course, a masterwork instrument, and grants its player a +2 circumstance bonus on all Perform checks made with it; this bonus stacks with any bonuses granted by the instrument’s magical enhancements.)
Finally, the enchantments on the adventurer’s clavichord make it more durable—a quality much prized by adventurer bards. The instrument has hit points and hardness as if made of stone rather than wood; it is as difficult to burn, and as slow to catch fire, as stone is; and it gains a +2 bonus on saves against damaging effects.
(The clavichord of mighty dynamics is an enhanced version of this item, with additional magical powers.)
