Main» Ivory Citadel

Standing at the heart of the Capital of Cherkessia, the Ivory Citadel is so named for the magnificent bone-white domes and spires that make up this palace of Cherkessia's kings. The Ivory Citadel has been damaged and rebuilt several times over its history — most recently after the Mongol? invasion — and each time has risen more beautiful than before. The current king of Cherkessia lives in the Citadel, with his family and the highest members of his court; here, matters of state are decided, and ministers and officials meet with representatives of other lands and realms; magical research is carried out; and important guests are entertained. A small army of courtiers, high and low, work here, each rushing to keep a hundred matters in order, so that Cherkessia's prosperity is ensured and threats to its people are neutralized. The Ivory Citadel is also one of the best-defended places in Midgard?; most nobles and officials of the court are sorcerers in some degree, and it's more common for a courtier in a hurry to teleport than walk down the palace halls. The Citadel also has a truly staggering array of magical wards, layered like the onions which its domes resemble.

Many wonders are said to be found in the Ivory Citadel. It is said that within its vaults are locked the greatest magical treasures in all of Midgard, items of such power that any one of them may topple empires should it fall into the wrong hands. It is said that in the king's throne room stands a Gate which can open to any place in all the universe. The libraries of the Ivory Citadel — so it is said — contains all the lore on all the creatures of all the realms: every angel in the heavens, every demon in the hells, and all between; and books of magic, mighty and terrible; and the secrets of history; and much else.
