Item Crafting
Cooperative experience costs
The allies of a magic item’s creator may contribute their own experience points toward the cost of crafting the item. Such a contribution must be made willingly and without any form of coercion (magical or otherwise). The XP can only come from other PCs, not from NPCs. Even cohorts or other loyal comrades won’t contribute experience points in this way.
The creator of the item must contribute at least one-quarter of the item’s total experience point cost, regardless of the number of allies who also contribute. For example, if an item requires an expenditure of 40,000 XP, the item’s creator (the character with the requisite item creation feats) must contribute at least 10,000 XP.
Cherkess wondrous item crafting
Cherkess casters have mastered a means of crafting wondrous items faster than normal. If a crafter knows this technique, he can split the crafting cost as detailed above. If one of the casters participating in crafting also has the Craft Wondrous Item feat, the total crafting time is reduced by half (round up to the nearest day). Each additional crafter with the Craft Wondrous Item feat reduces the crafting proportionally, i.e divide the number of days crafted by the number of participants. Participants in crafting without the Craft Wondrous Item feat cannot reduce the crafting time in any way.
Special crafting components
Characters may research special components which, when used in the creation of certain magic items, reduce the crafting cost (both gold and XP) and the crafting time. See Researching item components for details.
