Lizardfolk temples
Two high priests (Clr 11+) preside over the activities of the temple; they are known as the Eyes of the Devourer. One of them presides over the religious activity of the lizardfolk themselves; leads masses, oversees rituals and sacrifices, weeds out and punishes those who are not as devoted as they should be. He is called the Searching Eye, and he commands the lower ziggurat on that map. All rituals, sacrifices, the creation and storage of religious relics, and so forth, takes place there. The other high priest commands the outward-focused activities of the lizardfolk based here; patrols, military action against invaders of the Marshes?, suppression of any indigenous creatures that may be opposed to the cause of the Devourer (now mostly over), as well as the creation and deployment of the tzakandi?. This priest is called the Scouring Eye, and the upper ziggurat is his domain.
One thing that your demon friend tells you about these high priests is that they are granted a special power by their god; looking into their eyes produces the same effect as looking into the eyes of the Dark Devourer. They can't use this power continuously 24/7, but it's usually enough to ward off anyone insane enough to attack a temple.
Advising and assisting the high priests and their acolytes in any given temple is anywhere from two to a half-dozen sess'indarg?. Depending on how important the activities of that particular temple are at any given time. There are also around 40-50 dracotaurs?, which constitute a sort of slave fighting force. Around the same number of elite blackscale lizardfolk guards (trained fighters who form the elite guard of the priest class). Each of the two high priests has about 20 acolytes attending him personally, and a total of 30 or so more assigned to various duties throughout the temple. And in addition to this, there are hundreds upon hundreds of "nonelite" lizardfolk, of all three basic types, stationed here in the temple.
