Requirements

To qualify to become an occult slayer, a character must fulfill all the following criteria:

Base Attack Bonus: +5.
Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 4 ranks, Spellcraft 3 ranks.
Feats: Improved Initiative, Weapon Focus (any weapon).

Class Skills

The occult slayer’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Bluff (Cha), Craft (Int), Gather Information (Cha), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int).

Skill Points at Each Level

4 + Int modifier.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the occult slayer prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

Occult slayers are proficient with all simple and martial weapons and all armor and shields.

Magical Defense (Ex)

An occult slayer’s constant training in countering magic of all types manifests itself as a bonus on saving throws against spells or spell-like abilities. This bonus is +1 at 1st level, and it increases to +2 at 3rd level and to +3 at 5th level.

Weapon Bond (Su)

An occult slayer must choose a particular weapon of at least masterwork quality as the focus of her power. The occult slayer establishes her bond with the weapon with a ritual that takes 24 hours. The weapon bond has several effects.

First, any successful attack the occult slayer makes with that weapon against a spellcaster, or a creature with spell-like abilities, deals +1d6 points of damage.

Second, the occult slayer can, as a swift action, call the weapon to hand. The weapon appears instantly, called forth through the Shadow Realm from wherever it may have been, no matter how distant (though only if it’s on the same plane of existence).

Third, the occult slayer must be wielding her bonded weapon in order to use her mind over magic ability (see below).

The occult slayer may only have one bonded weapon at a time, but may select a new weapon by conducting the bonding ritual again. (This does not require the previous bonded weapon to have been lost or destroyed.)

This ability may be improved by taking the Improve Class Ability feat.

Vicious Strike (Ex)

At 2nd level and higher, whenever the occult slayer strikes a spellcaster who is casting a spell (e.g. with an attack of opportunity, or due to having readied an action against spellcasting, or attacking an opponent who is in the process of casting a spell that takes 1 full round or longer to cast, etc.), she deals double damage if the attack hits.

Mind over Magic (Su)

Starting at 2nd level, as an immediate action, an occult slayer can cause a spell or spell-like ability targeted against her, or a ray or similar ranged spell attack aimed at her (or at an adjacent ally), to rebound onto the originator (as if by spell turning). (A spell or ray must allow spell resistance in order for the occult slayer to be able to turn it back.)

The occult slayer must succeed on a special mind over magic check, to successfully turn back a spell or ray. The occult slayer’s bonus on this check is equal to:

base attack bonus + weapon’s enhancement bonus + any bonuses to skill with that weapon
(such as from the Weapon Focus feat or from a competence bonus to attack rolls)

The occult slayer must be wielding her bonded weapon (see weapon bond, above) to use mind over magic.

An occult slayer can use this ability once per day per class level.

Auravision (Su)

At 3rd level, an occult slayer gains the ability to see magical auras at a range of up to 60 feet as a free action. This ability otherwise functions as the detect magic spell. The character cannot use this ability to determine anything but the number of magical auras present.

This ability may be improved by taking the Improve Class Ability feat.

Nondetection Cloak (Su)

Upon reaching 4th level, an occult slayer gains protection against divinations, as per mind blank. (She does not gain the protection against mind-affecting effects, only against divinations and information-gathering.)

Additionally, whenever the occult slayer would otherwise (if not for this ability) be affected by an information-gathering spell, she is entitled to a Spellcraft check (DC equal to 25 + spell level) to identify the effect.

Blank Thoughts (Ex)

At 5th level, an occult slayer can induce within herself a state of mental absence, thereby gaining a +8 resistance bonus to saving throws against mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, patterns, phantasms, and morale effects). The occult slayer is immune to such effects that do not allow saving throws (excepting divine or artifact-level magic).

The occult slayer can suppress or resume this ability as a free action.
