A young man in Caledas, who is studying magic under Modestus.

Renzo is the 20-year-old son of a bookbinder in Caledas. Modestus is teaching him some magical “tricks”, but Renzo has no intention of becoming a wizard; he intends to make a career in military service. He has enlisted as an archer in the king’s troops under Don Celino, and is paying one of the armsmen to train him. He hopes to impress the commander enough to be granted an officer’s commission, despite not being noble-born.
