(See Gods & Domains for gameplay information.)

Volos is a guardian deity, the god of the underworld, patron deity of agriculture and wealth, the god of magic and knowledge, and the patron of arcane spellcasters. He watches over the souls of the dead. Volos is depicted as a minotaur, or else as a dark serpent. A serpent coiled around a mountain, or a stylized bull's head, are his most common symbols.

DM of Da: The path turns and opens up to the peak of the mountain
DM of Da: Here, the trunk of the World Tree expands into a mass of twisted roots, which grip the mountain peak and extend down into it
DM of Da: The trunk is, as I said, as wide as a city
DM of Da: At the base, of the trunk, where the roots branch out, cut directly into the wood, is a massive throne
DM of Da: Sitting upon it is a being that looks much like a Huge minotaur, his horns like gleaming ebony
DM of Da: Approaching closer, you see that his eyes are slitted, like those of a snake
DM of Da: The demon walks up and takes his place to the right of the throne
DM of Da: The horned being - who you realize is Volos himself, turns his eyes toward you
DM of Da: And for a second, your hearts stop
DM of Da: Just for a moment, you feel the grip of death surround you

DM of Da: Volos fixes you all with his gaze
DM of Da: And you hear a voice in your minds; a deep, commanding voice, that sounds like some cross between the hissing of a serpent and
                the rumbling of an earthquake
DM of Da: It's a voice that makes you want to run and hide
DM of Da: "Those who would take your place must choose to do so."
DM of Da: And as he says this
DM of Da: What you took to be one of the roots of the great tree
DM of Da: Turns out to be not quite
DM of Da: But instead an immense serpent, that coils around the base of the trunk
DM of Da: It lifts its head, peering at you hungrily, opening its mouth
DM of Da: And slithers closer, tasting the air with its tongue
