A businessman, schemer, blackmailer, and scoundrel. Formerly of Kiev, but after losing his inheritance, came to Novgorod in an ill-fated attempt to set himself up as a "king of blackmail" and thus take control of Novgorod's most profitable markets and endeavors... a scheme which cost him his life.
Yegor Dolgorukiy was the son of the late Kievan merchant Dmitriy Dolgorukiy?. Dmitriy held his son in great disfavor, on account of Yegor's unethical and outright evil machinations, and his lack of respect for his father, and wished by any means to avoid leaving his wealth and holdings to Yegor; likewise, the younger Dolgorukiy had no part whatsoever in running his father's trading empire.
Yegor's daughter is Tatiana Dolgorukaya?, sorceress, Kievan City Councillor, formerly apprentice and now wife to "Ambassador" Said. (See Tatiana's entry for more information.) Tatiana was close to her grandfather, and wasn't on good terms with Yegor.
Among the many shady characters employed by Yegor Dolgorukiy was a pawn shop owner named Arkadiy Norkin, who hired the player characters for a job which eventually turned into the quest to recover the Journal of Zmei Gromovoi. The PCs eventually met their boss's boss — Yegor — and he promised them wealth beyond their wildest dreams, if they helped him recover the Journal (but that business relationship did not work out, largely on account of Yegor's abrasive and domineering behavior).
Yegor Dolgorukiy was a follower of Karayan the Dark (one of the Iron Triad), and even bore Karayan's Triad medallion. (His talents at scheming and "the subtle arts" ultimately did not save him from the vengeance of his enemies, and his death proved him unworthy of the path of Karayan.)
When the Greek holy warrior Yanos the Holy, son of Archbishop Satyros?, began nosing around Kiev's criminal underworld and poking his nose into Yegor's affairs, Yegor hired the Assassins' Guild to kill Yanos. (Yegor attempted to conceal his identity as the customer in the hit on Yanos, but Tamara?, the assassin guild boss, discovered the truth.) The Guild gave this difficult job to Boris, who carried out the hit quite effectively (with a little help from his friends).
When Yegor's father, Dmitriy Dolgorukiy, died, he left his estate — his considerable wealth, his business holdings, assets, and so forth — to Yegor's daughter, Tatiana. Denied his inheritance, Yegor decided to go to Novgorod to make his fortune. He tried to hire the Assassins' Guild of Kiev to act as his spies and agents in a plot against the merchant Isidor. The guild boss, Tamara, refused, unwilling to leave her guild's turf and operate in an unfamiliar city against unknown enemies. (The PCs later found out that Tamara was willing to assign leadership of the operation to Boris; unfortunately, the party was missing at the time... in time.)
Undaunted, Yegor went ahead with his schemes against Isidor, attempting to employ his usual strategies of espionage, bribery, and blackmail. His efforts utterly failed (in large part, no doubt, due to Isidor's much more effective agents, the shadowdancers, through whom Isidor had been keeping tabs on Yegor for some time). Switching tacks, Yegor next targeted the shipwright Olaf Greybeard with his scheming, and began making inroads, gaining influence over some of Greybeard's associates and suppliers. Greybeard had little tolerance for this, and put out the word that a reward was to be had for Yegor's head. The PCs learned of this (through Vasily's Cult associate Lev Gurov), and took up the job.
The PCs, with some effort, tracked Yegor to a secret hideout in a tunnel under the bottom of Lake Ilmen? in Novgorod, where Yegor was staying in a portable, extradimensional lair. They captured him, and took his personal wealth, as well as his extensive cache of information on Novgorod's business world (see this forum thread for details), as spoils of victory. After interrogating him thoroughly, the PCs killed Yegor and delivered his head to Greybeard for their reward. (See this forum thread and this session log for details on the interrogation and its results.)
Yegor, spiteful man that he was, had various elaborate schemes in place — "dead man's switches" — to go into effect upon his disappearance or death, that would seriously damage or destroy the reputations of various important personages in the Russian lands, cause political havoc, and otherwise work mischief. However, due to the PCs' skill with both magic and social manipulation, and their own contacts, they were able to neutralize these schemes. Furthermore, with the information gleaned from the interrogation, and the truly impressive amount of intelligence on Novgorod's business world found in Yegor's records, the PCs quietly appropriated Yegor's contacts in Kiev and Novgorod, taking over control of his operations and schemes. All the various individuals who worked for Yegor Dolgorukiy, in Kiev and Novgorod, now answer to Vasily (without knowing it, of course), with Juliane overseeing their activities on an ongoing basis.
