Any creature within the area of a dictum spell suffers from the ill effects given on the table. The effects are cumulative and concurrent.
On a successful Will save, a creature suffers effects one category less severe on the table above. Creatures that you designate as allies also suffer effects one category less severe.
When you cast dictum, you may choose one of the four primary alignments: Chaos, Evil, Good or Law. You may only choose an alignment if you possess the appropriate alignment aura (as determined by detect evil, etc.). If you do choose an alignment, dictum gains the appropriate descriptor. Additionally, creatures within the spell’s area that possess the opposing alignment aura suffer effects one category more severe on the table above.
All category modifications as outlined above are cumulative.
For example, Anton, a Good-aligned cleric, casts dictum. Oksana, an unaligned rogue with 6 hit dice less than Anton’s caster level, is designated as an ally; if she succeeds at her save, she will be slowed, but suffer no other ill effects; if she fails, she will also be dazed. Albrecht, an Evil-aligned fighter, is not designated as an ally, and has 7 hit dice less than Anton’s caster level; if he succeeds at his Will save, he will be paralyzed, dazed, and slowed; if he fails, he will also be killed (rendering the other penalties moot).
Dazed: The creature can take no actions for 1 round, though it defends itself normally.
Slowed: The creature is slowed, as the slow spell, for 2d4 rounds.
Paralyzed: The creature is paralyzed and helpless for 1d10 minutes.
Killed: Living creatures die. Undead creatures are destroyed.
Furthermore, if you are on your home plane when you cast this spell, extraplanar creatures within the area are instantly banished back to their home planes; creatures you designate as allies are immune to this effect. Creatures so banished cannot return for at least 24 hours. This effect takes place regardless of whether the creatures hear the dictum. The banishment effect allows a Will save to negate.
