Greater restoration works like lesser restoration, but has three of the following six effects (chosen at the time of casting).
(Regardless of which effects you choose, a character may only benefit from any of the restoration spells—including the lesser and greater versions—once per day.)
Dispel magical penalties to ability scores
As lesser restoration, except that the maximum caster level on the dispel check is +30, and up to three such effects can be dispelled.
Cure ability damage
As lesser restoration, except that greater restoration cures all damage (but not drain) to all of the subject’s ability scores.
Alternatively, greater restoration can cure all the ability drain from one of the subject’s ability scores (your choice, if more than score is drained).
(You can cure both damage and drain, but each counts as a separate effect; i.e., with a single casting of greater restoration, you could cure all ability damage and all drain from two ability score, or cure all drain from three ability scores, or cure all drain from two ability scores and use one of the spell’s other effects, etc.)
Treat disease
As lesser restoration, except that the effects of diseases are fully reversed, restoring the subject to the healthy state on all applicable disease tracks. (If a disease has not been removed, via remove disease or heal, the subject is instead restored to the latent/carrier step, if the disease has one.) Greater restoration can reverse the effects of any disease.
Remove fatigue
As lesser restoration, except that greater restoration removes all fatigue and exhaustion afflicting the target.
Remove negative levels
As restoration, but the first temporary negative level afflicting the the target is dispelled automatically (any temporary negative levels beyond the first still require a caster level check to dispel), and the bonus to saves on a failed check is +8.
Alternatively, greater restoration can remove two permanent negative levels. (No caster level check is required in this case.) If this is one of the effects selected, the material component requirement is increased fivefold.
Remove mental afflictions
When used in this way, greater restoration can dispel or reverse confusion, insanity, and similar mental afflictions. Make a caster level check (DC equal to 11 + the caster level of the effect) for each mental affliction affecting the target; on a success, the affliction is cured. (Note that greater restoration can only cure mental afflictions caused by magic or supernatural effects, not naturally occurring mental disorders.)
Material Component
Diamond dust worth 1,000 gp that is sprinkled over the target.
